RadiAnt DICOM Viewer 1.2.7 BETA

Oct 4, 2012 09:32 PM
by RadiAnt
A minor update this time:

- Copy & Paste of ROIs - CTRL + C copies selected ROI, CTRL + SHIFT + C copies all ROIs in displayed image, CTRL + V pastes ROI(s) in the same or in different image.
- Hold SHIFT during ellipse drawing to make it a circle, hold it while drawing a segment to make it horizontal or vertical.
- Improved support for images with VOI LUT defined.

you call it minor? WOW, I see an incredible potential in this new update

I think this could represent the base for an outstanding new feature: "time-intensity curves".

take a breast MRI study, load dynamic contrast enhanced series, put the ROI over a lesion and copy it all over multiple series.

now you just need to create a graph with series number on the x axis and signal intensity value of each ROI on the y axis.

doing this you have obtained ina few seconds a "time-intensity" curve like many commercial softwares with expensive licences do.

think about it... you just need to implement a tool to plot the ROI values of the selected series in a graph and save it as image.

this could represent another "killer" feature of Radiant VIEWER that could make it become very popular in the MRI breast community.

hi,
i have tried this roi copy paste thing. but there is a problem. i've used it on axial brain mr images (T1, T2 and FLAIR). they are syncronized. when i've copy pasted the roi, it appeared in the same size but at random locations.
so we can't produce a time-intensity curve.

@atakan

I suspect that your MR series have diffent FOV so the copied ROI does not apply in the same position.

on my breast MRI study all the series have same FOV so the copied ROI are perfect.

anyway time-intesity curves cannot be drawn on different sequence (T1, T2 or FLAIR) but I think that you know that.

@tommy
i think you are right about FOV variation.

@tommy
Do you corregister the images somehow before you apply this?

@aa

no, actually I do not use any corregistration or motion correction in breast MRI studies.

it's just a dynamic contrast enhanced Siemens VIBE T1 FatSat sequence that is repeated 6 times consecutively with the same imaging parameters

As for the placement of copied ROI - the pixel position in DICOM image is the same as in the source ROI. Which basically means that two series must have the same FOV, matrix size, image orientation and image position so that copied ROI is placed over the same region as in source.

Tommy, the time-intensity curves implementation basing on ROI copy&paste function is a nice suggestion, we will definitely think about it!

yes, time-intensity curves would be another "killer" feature, and would estabilish RadiantViewer as the best DICOM viewer for breast MRI studies.

no DICOM viewer I know is capable of this even if there's no "rocket-science" in it...
you have just to plot the ROI values and the number of the series in a X-Y graph...
