Adipose and muscular tissues measurement

Hi everyone,

I'm new in using radiant dicom viewer, I'm an oncologist. I'm trying to measure skeletal muscle index and adipose tissue index from CT imaging. The process is described as follows in different studies: cross-sectional area of muscle and adipose tissue was averaged from two consecutive axial images within the same series at the third lumbar vertebra; different tissue compartments were manually outlined and segmentation of the tissue of interest was based on HU thresholds (i.e. -29 to +150 for skeletal muscle); total cross sectional area of the segmented tissue area was calculated automatically.
The authors of these studies used OsiriX software. Is it possible to do the same thing with Radiant?
Thank you all for help!

Hello,

I am not from Radiant, but I think Radiant does not have the option to segment based on exact HU values.

If you are looking for a Windows - based Software, I would recommend you use 3D Slicer slicer.org

It is not so good for general viewing, but it is free and open source. Sometimes really unstable, so save your work often.

That is correct. There is no way to segment your images based on HU values in RadiAnt.
